Karlsruhe to Lucerne

Left Karlsruhe this morning, it’s a rainy day. Our first stop was in the Black Forest at a Cuckoo Clock maker, they had hundreds of cuckoo clocks and assorted wooden carvings, all made there. They also claimed to make a famous black forest cake and after trying it we agreed that it was very good, yum.

From there we went to the Rhine falls, walked around the fall and had lunch there. We were lucky that it stopped raining while we were here.

After that we crossed the border into Switzerland and stopped at Lucerne. First we walked across and around the Chapel Bridge, saw the lion monument then checked into our hotel. We had about 2 hours to spare before dinner so we caught a tram to the centre of town and had a quick look around the streets and shops. It is a very pretty town with magnificent backdrop of the Swiss Alps.

For dinner we went back to town to a Swiss folklore restaurant where they had yodelling and horn blowing. The got a number of people on stage to yodel, thanks to Carol I was dragged up and had a pretty bad attempt to yodel!

Went back to the hotel and finished with drinks at the bar with some from the tour. We met a very loud, animated and fun Russian who was wrapped to talk to us and shout drinks. The problem was he didn’t speak a word of English so there was a lot of sign language and guessing, we really didn’t have a clue what he was talking about but it was a fun night.
